CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The towing of commercial vehicles may no longer be legal in Charlotte. That’s according to an email from the attorney for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department obtained by WBTV this week.

An email sent by police attorney Jessica Battle on March 16, 2026, seeks to clarify a law passed by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2025. The law prohibits the immobilizing and booting of commercial motor vehicles.

The email, sent to sworn officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, says the city attorney’s office had been in communication with the lawmakers who drafted the legislation.
