CMPD Midyear Report Shows 16% Overall Crime Reduction

Charlotte, N.C. (Wednesday, July 15, 2026) – The Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) released its midyear public safety update today, reporting steady reductions in several key crime categories and highlighting partnership‑driven strategies that are improving safety across the city.

The results, covering January 1 through June 30, 2026, show significant progress citywide, with CMPD reporting a 16% decrease in overall crime during the second quarter of 2026, including an 8% reduction in violent crime and a 17% decrease in property crime. Notable declines include robberies (down 23%), aggravated assaults (down 4%), vehicle thefts (down 31%), larcenies from auto (down 29%), and burglaries (down 33%).
